Pantone Colour of the Year 2018 – Ultra Violet – in Retail Design
It’s that time of the year again, when Pantone announces its new colour of the year. The new Pantone colour of the year for 2018 is ultra violet, the purplest of purples.
Purple is a really strong colour, and quite a challenging colour to use in retail design. It can be a bit overwhelming or worse, cheap-looking if not used with care.
Purple pairs well with golds and blonde woods for a rich look, and with neutrals to add a dash of interest to an otherwise serious colour scheme.
Purple is often used for nightlife venues, such as clubs and bars. It’s also popular for hair and beauty salons, as used correctly purple can be regal, glamourous and luxurious. Contemporary offices – particularity tech start ups and dot com businesses also like to use pops of purple amongst otherwise white colour schemes to add a dash of Millennial-friendly personality to corporate spaces.
Here’s some inspiration on how to own ultra violet in your retail design and restaurant interiors with taste and style.

The interior design scheme we came up with for The Brow Bar made use of rich Pantone-perfect purple retail design tempered with gold and cream to give a rich, royal feeling to the Brow Bar salons.

We love this use of Panton’s colour of the year, ultra violet in this retail design: André boutique boasts a purple glass feature wall to add depth and drama to the store’s otherwise neutral and understated retail interior. It shows that a purple retail interior design can be smart and sophisticated.

Cafe Le Plage in Cape Town uses clever purple lighting design in its feature bar design to add some magic to the restaurant interior.
